Travel advice during the Coronation weekend

Before you set off

Check conditions before you travel and avoid peak times where possible.

Allow plenty of extra time. The roads into and around London are likely to be very busy, particularly on the day of the Coronation. Please prepare for your journey in case there are delays. Make sure:

• your vehicle is fit for the journey – carry out our recommended vehicle checks
• you allow more time for your journey, including regular breaks
• you check travel conditions before setting out and, where it's safe to do so, during the journey

Pack essential supplies just in case you need them, including:

• drinking water
• snacks
• a fully charged mobile phone and a charger
• any emergency medication you may need

Travelling on our motorways

We're lifting roadworks from more than 96 per cent of England’s motorway and major A road network over the Coronation weekend.

The roadworks are being removed from our roads in the south-east of the country by 6am on Thursday 4 May and elsewhere across England by 6am on Friday 5 May. They will not be put back in place until 12.01am on Tuesday 9 May.

When you get to London

Transport for London (TfL) is advising people to avoid driving in central London on the day of the Coronation, Saturday 6 May, as road closures will be in place.
