Early careers

There are a variety of early career opportunities on the A428.

Early careers

We have many opportunities for local people to kick-start their careers via apprenticeships, work placements and graduate programmes.

These will be in a wide range of disciplines from site-based roles such as steel fixers and operatives, to office-based ones like quantity surveying and engineering.

We’ll also be championing career progression, with apprenticeships from intermediate to degree level and graduate programmes designed with leadership skills.

Apprenticeships

Whatever your age or background, an apprenticeship or degree apprenticeship could help you build a career, while earning a salary, gaining practical work experience and achieving a professional qualification – all at the same time!

Meet our apprentices

Are you thinking about doing an apprenticeship? Hear from our apprentices on what made them choose their career path.

Find what's right for you

You may even have a specific interest, like art, being outdoors or writing – these could easily lead you into a fulfilling career on the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements scheme.

For more information on the roles available within construction, including typical industry salaries, check out Go Construct.

Timeframes

The majority of apprenticeships are released in February for a September start. Graduate schemes and degree apprenticeships are advertised from September, for a start date of the following September. However, every now and then we will release opportunities outside of these timeframes, so we recommend setting up an alert on the company website so you don’t miss anything.

The main bulk of early career roles will come during construction. Most of our apprentice and graduate opportunities will be recruited by our delivery and supply chain partners and will be advertised on their individual websites.
