A46 Newark Bypass team helps spread Christmas cheer

Last week they donated food items including turkey and all the trimmings to young people’s homelessness charity Newark Emmaus Trust to provide a Christmas meal for its parents and their children as well as a Boxing Day buffet for other residents.

Nicola Burley, CEO of the Trust, which helps local, vulnerable, homeless young people by providing temporary quality accommodation with professional care, support and training, said:

“We are always grateful for the help we receive at this time of year from the community. We hope to reduce the loneliness and isolation that homeless young people feel lonely at any time, but it is particularly difficult for them at this time of year. We are so very grateful for this incredibly generous donation which will ensure the residents and their children enjoy a time of year that many of us take for granted. On behalf of the team and the residents – Thank you!”

On 12 December, representatives from National Highways’ delivery partner Skanska volunteered at Beaumond House Hospice Care’s Light up a Life service at Newark Parish Church and next week a number of staff from across the project will be taking part in the hospice’s annual bag-packing fundraiser at Marks and Spencer.

Matt Colbourne, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Beaumond House said:

“Beaumond House has a deeply cherished relationship with the local team from National Highways and Skanska. We rely heavily on volunteers for many of our events and fundraising activities, and having companies like this generously support us through corporate volunteering really does make a massive difference.”

National Highways Senior Project Manager for the A46 Newark Bypass improvement scheme Phil Boffey said:

“At National Highways we are very keen that we give back to the communities in which we work and we are delighted to be able to support these two good causes in the run up to Christmas. We hope the contribution made by the project team helps spread some festive cheer.”

John McGinty, Project director at Skanska, added:

“Throughout this year we’ve been taking part in a range of fundraising activities for these two amazing local charities, but we’re keen to top things off by going one step further during the festive period. We are proud to be able to support them, to allow their valuable work in the community to continue; tackling homelessness in young people and providing palliative care to patients and support for their families.

“As part of our commitment to the area during the lifetime of the scheme, we will continue to support both of these charities and other local community activities again next year.”
