Skanska named preferred bidder for Lower Thames Crossing Kent Roads contract

July saw the announcement of the Kent Roads contract, which was awarded to Skanska. This contract will deliver the southern part of the route that connects the A2/M2 to the tunnel approach

Investing in communities

The Lower Thames Crossing is delivering an ambitious programme of wider investment in local communities and the environment.

Projects have been developed with a strong understanding of local needs and priorities based on established relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners.

On the road to success, local young people start their careers on the project

In September, we showcased four local young people that have started their careers this year working for Lower Thames Crossing Roads North of the Thames Delivery Partner, Balfour Beatty.

The local recruits include three apprentices from Thurrock and Basildon who are studying level 3 Business Administration and one Customer and Communication graduate from Kent.

Vintage car parade celebrates 60 years of the Dartford Crossing

The Dartford Crossing celebrated its 60th birthday in November and we arranged a vintage car parade to celebrate. We also released historical images found in the archives.

Ten cars from the South Eastern Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club in Essex took part in the parade, with cars dating back as far as the 1930s, when construction on the Dartford Crossing first started.

Four firms shortlisted for groundbreaking Lower Thames Crossing hydrogen bid

In July, we announced our plans to reduce our carbon footprint, becoming the first major UK infrastructure project to use hydrogen to power its heavy construction machinery and in November we unveiled the four businesses that have been shortlisted to supply over six million kilograms of hydrogen for use on the proposed Lower Thames Crossing project, the largest volume ever bought in the UK transport sector.

Lower Thames Crossing delivery team complete as Bouygues Travaux Publics – Murphy (BMJV) awarded tunnelling contract

In December, we announced the contract award, that completes the team that will build the Lower Thames Crossing. BMJV join Balfour Beatty (Roads North of the Thames) and Skanska (Kent Roads).
